Message from the Superintendent-
Welcome to the Madison District Schools website. My name is Gary Vettori, and I currently have the privilege of serving the community and the District in the role of Superintendent. As a student and an employee, I have been involved with the Madison District Schools for over 50 years. I have worked as a custodian, teacher, coach, and administrator. My experience covers all three levels, and at one time or another, I have worked in every building within the District.
As the panel below illustrates there are some well kept secrets about the Madison District Schools. Other unknown facts include:
-
Recent test scores have gone up in nearly every category.
-
According to a recent university study in Iowa, the enrollment of our high school (550-650) has been determined to be the optimum size. It is thought a school of this size gives students a wide range of exposure to many diverse people and experiences, yet is small enough that students do not get lost in the shuffle.
-
A recent study recently revealed when comparing the Madison District Schools with districts that have similar characteristics, our test scores exceed the norm.
I have been asked to take the wheel and captain the ship. The course that I take will be charted by the 7 elected representatives of the community. Whether or not I will be able to maintain that course will be determined by the secretaries, custodians, para-pros, food service workers, teachers and administrators. Fortunately, we have some extremely dedicated, compassionate, and talented people in those groups. For this reason I am certain we will continue on our path of improvement.
Finally, any study that you read or any expert that you talk to will tell you the same thing - districts need involvement from the community. The old adage, 'it takes a village to raise a child", is as true now as it ever has been. Please know your contributions in any form are always welcome.
Sincerely yours,
Gary J. Vettori
Superintendent
